Want To Have Crate Training For Your Puppy?
One of the most important factor in training your dog or puppy is to reward them whenever they does something right. How fast or easy for them to be trained are directly related to the time that you spend with your dog and puppy.
It's important to make provision of your "best friend" when you're out of the house. Never leave them to run freely in the house unless they are properly housetrained. This is because they will make a habit of leaving their "waste" all over the house. Put them in a small area like the bathroom, utlity room or the kitchen. Do take note that confining them in the room is not considered as crate training.
So What Is Crate Training?
Please know the difference of confining your puppy temporarily in a crate and having them confined for a long time when you are not around. The main reason to confine them when you are out is to ensure that they make less or no mistakes and only applicable to small areas only if they do. Crate training purpose on the other hand, is quite the opposite.
Abusing crate training or worse problems will drastically arise. Having the crate is not to put them inside and forgetting their existence for a period of time. If your puppy is left in the crate for too long and soils the crate, you will have at least a few weeks or sometime months of delay in house training your dog.
When Should You Confine Your Puppies In A Crate?
Confine them only when you're home but not at night because you want them to have the opportunity to relieve themselves. Every time when you let them to get out, get a leash and take them outside so that they can produce.
If they doesn't eliminate anything in 5 to 10 minutes, return it to their crate. While if they does produce, reward them with treats or praise. Puppies should be taken to the toilet area every hour. All the while, keep track of when your puppy eliminates. With a regular feeding time, they should be having the same elimination time too. Once you know the time they want to pee or poo, you can bring them out at the specific time.
Things To Avoid During Crate Training Puppy
Never punish your puppy if they happen to pee or poo in the house. Just clean it up. It's mainly your fault for giving them unsupervised access to the house too soon. Never let them wander around the house until they can be fully trusted. Whenever there are mistakes or accidents that happened, it's always best start the crate training again as there are sure to be some sort of mistakes done during the training.
